The word 'consciousness' points to our 'faculty of awareness'.
That is the actual meaning of the word.
That is what consciousness is.
Humans have consciousness, as do countless other sentient creatures.
There's no mystery here - we humans know what consciousness is.
The real question is, 'who am I' that has consciousness?
