Some traditions advocate meditating with eyes open, although most recommend closed. Some say being comfortable is best, others that sitting upright and still is critical. A few involve movement, more use music or spoken guidance.

There are countless mental practices too, for example, setting an intention or using visualisation, 'feeling the inner body', following the breath, bringing attention to the heart, chanting, using a mantra, 'mindfulness'.

So which is best?

Whatever works for you is best...but it is important to recognise that the ultimate goal is not in the mind, it is to transcend the mind.

Despite all the differences, there are a few Golden Rules most agree on:

  • COMMIT TO DO IT EVERY DAY.
  • HAVE NO EXPECTATIONS.
  • BE PATIENT AND CARRY ON, NO MATTER WHAT THE MIND SAYS!

It takes perseverance for the benefits to be realised, but once they are, you just know it.

...so as Nike says - JUST DO IT!
